This an extract from HOOKED ON ROCK N ROLL (May news letter)
I thought you would like to see how others see you !
Hi Anne,
Thought you might like to put a piece in the next newsletter about our recent trip to Tasmania. Colin and I did some phoning around and found that the Retro Rockers were holding their monthly dance at the Australian Italian Club at Prospect, near Launceston. They had the band, Skooterz, playing as well as their own music in the breaks.
To say that we were warmly welcomed, would be an under statement. Many of the Retro Rockers came up to introduce themselves and have a chat with us. We danced all night and didn’t leave until the band had finished. We found that they turn the right way (i.e. same us) in Stray Cat Strut, do the Red Hot Salsa just a little differently, joined in with the Pakenham Line Dance (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy), Rock and Roll Waltz, and did the Nutbush to the live band!
Their trainers have just learnt Whiskey Under the Bridge, but haven’t taught it yet. We joined them on the dance floor for that one to a very fast Elvis song! And we showed a couple of members how to do the 16 step as a partner dance.
So anyone heading over to Tassie should get in touch with the Retro Rockers, care of the Australian Italian Club at Prospect. Our only recommendations – don’t go dancing on the same day as you walk the Cataract Gorge and be sure to book into the Roman Baths for a relaxing spa and massage for the next day!
Cheers, Tracey Matthies
PS Anne, perhaps you could add them to your mailing list: Retro Rockers, c/ Australian Italian Club, 414 Westbury Rd, Prospect, Tasmania
Thanks Tracey, I will do that right now!
P.S. Wendy and Greg of S’Coolhouse Rockers are off to do some more workshops with the Retro Rockers. Should be great fun Happy 25th
