From the Committee:

Hi from the President and the Retro Rockers committee. As the Club year draws to a close the committee are heartened by the interest shown by Club members in nominating for committee positions for the coming years elections at the AGM.

As of the 19th September the A I C will be offering a two course meal on Cabaret nights available from 7.00pm. Total cost will be $20 including Cabaret/Dance entry. Bookings for dinner at Cabaret/ Dance functions can only be made through the A IC. Admission to the Cabaret only, will be after 8 PM with $10 CC. It is hoped that the AIC will be able to gather public support to continue this new role for its Patrons at all the Cabarets organised in the newly named "MONDO ROOM"

Activities:
Several Club Members headed off in June to the Wintersun Festivities in sunny Queensland. It was reported that a good time was had by one and all and that several of our Roamin’ Rockers also joined up with the gang to celebrate as well.
Club sources have reported that many happy hours were spent shopping and looking at the displays and attending the many dances held during the week around the town. Whilst in Qld a few rockers and their families attended “Dream World Theme Park”, we were advised that one senior rocker joined the kids on the water slide and then spent the rest of the day in soggy clothes, at the end of the day he was found inside the rented mini van with the windows all fogged up and the heater full on trying to warm up, hmmmm what are swimming togs for? He isn’t 60 yet so he can’t claim Kraft syndrome. Wintersun apparently continues to be the number one National Rock’n’Roll event.
KRAFT=Kan’t remember a flamin’ thing.

For those of us who are into restored motor vehicles and “Roddie’s“ the event see’s cars from all across Australia come along. They are a must to go see. Gems from a past era in all their splendor, the owners must spend a fortune to bring them back to life and we are the lucky one’s who get to see them at their best.
In our own club we have some talented people as well with their own restored vehicles which are a credit to their respective owners.
If you are at a loose end in November why not visit Adelaide for its R’n’R Festival. Whilst nowhere as big as the Qld event it is really quite good and worth a visit if you are free in November.
The Crow eaters make you feel extremely welcome and also make you a part of their R’nR family while you are in Adelaide, plus there is absolutely heaps of things to do and places to go see while you are there without costing a lot.

Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves night at the AIC:What a fun night we had together with good music and some Magical costumes to brighten the decore. The whole spectrum of crooks were assembled including Pirates, Bank Managers, Real Estate Agents, Bank Robbers, Gypsies and an assortment of Tramps etc filled our ranks.

It is absolutely marvellous at what one can pick up from the various op shops to dress up in without having to spend a lot of money, at the same time helping our charities raising a little money for so many worthwhile projects, a little bit of thought and then the fun of making it happen. Can’t wait for the Birthday bash, should be some wonderful and wacky sights to see and share a laugh over.

Sick List:

Ronnie Wing: sorry to hear your not well Ronnie and we hope to see you up and about soon, the Club sends its best wishes mate. Go the Pie’s.

Roamin’ Rockers:
Still at large on the Big Island include the Mahoney gang (Graeme, Jean, John and Joan). Gary and Ros Wise, George and Jill Bowman, Billy and Vonda Shields, Dennis and Ellie Collins, and also Doug Mollison and Lesley Loring, we hope they all enjoy or have enjoyed the warmer climes and their adventures.

Those who are now a year younger:
July Birthdays included Allan Thomson, Marcia Gibson, Lyn Cox, Wendy Van Tongeron, Doug Mollison, Nick Knight, Louise Price and Jill Bowman. if we have missed any one, a big happy Birthday to you with only the very best wishes for the year ahead from all at the Club.

Lighter side of life:

A lovely Launceston couple dropped in for a cuppa and a chat on a cold and damp Sunday. The wife, I won’t give her name away, was sitting down happily chatting away and then discovered to her horror that she had put her top on inside out and back to front. Well we all had a good laugh as the victim has not long turned 60… is this another victim of the dreaded KRAFT disease. A clue for who it was…now that would really be unkind hey???

C’mon gang let me know of funny situations that we can share on these pages.

Condolences:
The Members of the Club extend their most sincere sympathy to both Rodney Midson and his family on the loss of his father and to Wayne Burt and Family on the loss of his Brother Peter.

Saturday 25th of July saw a large contingent of the Retro Rockers and rock ’n ’rollers from the South and the North west of the State enjoy a good night of dancing at Ravenswood with the Launceston Rock ’n’ Roll appreciation Club.

Got an event happening that others may like to attend, let me know your details and we’ll let everyone know.

Christmas in July bus trip and dinner:

37 hardy souls ventured to the Hinterland on a bus trip to have a beaut Xmas lunch at the Great Lakes Hotel, more on this next month.

June 2009 Class:

Pictured above, the June 2009 Basic class and their instructors on the completion of their 6 week course. Well done to all who attended, the club hopes you have enjoyed your time in the class. It would be great to see you join us in the Intermediate classes now to further your dancing skills or to do a refresher in the basic class. Hmmm if my memory is correct it took me 4 goes at the basic class to get it right…now which foot? Thanks to Kathryn Ervin for the photo.
