Retro Rockers Tasmania
Newsletter August / September 2009
Welcome to the August/September edition of the Club newsletter. Apologies for the late issue. My dad has been unwell and a trip to the mainland has thrown the schedule a bit, as well as the restructuring of the birthday bash. As Spring approaches with all its glory and the winter bulbs and flowers share their beauty with us, we look forward to our coming events and the colour and warmth that this brings into our lives.
Important notice re “Birthday Bash”.
: As you are all most probably aware owing to a change in management at the Poatina Village and changes to what activities were allowed on site, we had to find another venue. The efforts of Jan Dolley in organising another venue for the Birthday bash has been outstanding and we extend our thanks for all of your efforts Jan. We are off to Bridport on the weekend of the 17th+18th of October. Revised details have been emailed and new flyer is on notice board. A little hiccup but the Organizing committee have done really well to make sure it will still happen for us, well done gang from us all. If you were unable to get to Poatina maybe you will be free for the Bridport weekend. Let’s all join in the fun and celebrations. We are led to believe that Jan and Co have a treat in store for us yet again.

Activities:Christmas in July………
As reported last month 37 RR’s and friends went for Xmas in July to the Great Lake Hotel. Boy was it a chilly day in the mountains, large sections of the water closer to shore were actually iced over, but in the hotel we were snug as bugs in rugs, we got so warm that frequent trips to the verandah proved just the answer for having danced too close to the open fire in the bar.

Having beenwell fed and watered we boarded the bus for our trip home. The windows on the bus fogged up very quickly with the cold air outside. Stopping at the lookout for a peek over the lake a certain garage proprietor took a tumble, hmmm was it one too many? We went through Liaweenie on the journey home and found out why it’s just about the coldest place in Tassie. The Great Lake, a beaut place to visit………..

The Hostess enjoyed the day so much that she would like us to go back for a dance in the summer, food for thought hey? We had a great day, a great lunch, and a lot of fun and dancing with some beautiful sight seeing thrown in. Our thanks to Allan for organizing a great outing.

PS: we went up to the pub for lunch early Sept with mainland visitors, there was snow everywhere and it snowed all the way back to Golden Valley, beautiful………

Lighter side of life:
Whilst having lunch at the Great Lakes Hotel a couple of wags proudly told everyone “look its snowing outside” some of us stood and looked while others craned their necks to see the snow.

(What snow?) We all had a great laugh. Don’t know if the fisherman caught any trout in the lake that day but quite a few fish were hooked at the dinner table. Our thanks to Caroline and Gaylene for the picture and the laughs.

Those who are now a year younger:
August/September Birthdays included Allan Thomson, Marcia Gibson, Lyn Cox, Wendy Van Tongeron, Doug Mollison, Nick Knight, Louise Price, Jill Bowman, Vicki Crawford, Peter Mahnken, Shiela Cochrane, Wayne Lockhart and Grant Radford, apologies if we have missed any one, a big happy Birthday to you all with only the very best wishes for the year ahead from all at the Club.

Thought for the month:
While you seek new friendships take care to cultivate the old ones.

Member Profile: Jan and Peter Pfundt:

Jan and Peter joined the club in February 2009. They are very happy and are enjoying the many activities of the club.

Both born in Launceston they have been very committed to our community through their past activities and are still active in volunteer roles with Legacy which includes visiting Legacy widows and the elderly in our community. They have a son and daughter and 2 grandaughters.

Some of Peter’s roles have been as President of Legacy here in Lonnie. As Past president, he was involved in the setting up of the “Dragons Afloat” Program and in his spare time Pete is an active Funeral Celebrant. Jan spends a lot of her time still helping those in need in what ever way she can plus her Legacy activities.
