Swingin': Vicrorian Rock 'n' roll champions Wendy and Greg Gilbert.
There’ll be a whole lot of Rockin’ going on.
Get out your high heels and swishy skirts because rock ‘n’ is back and is as loud and proud as ever.
Rock ‘n’ roll fan Alan Crawford, of Launceston and his dance-loving friends have organised a monthly rock ‘n’ roll night at the Australian Italian Club
at Prospect.
But on Saturday the place will come to life with real swinging and flipping from a 15-piece Victorian rock ‘n’ roll dance group.
S’Coolhouse Rock will perform in the Brisbane St Mall under the new roof in the morning before holding a workshop at the AIC between 1pm and 4pm
on basic four-step dance moves. There is no age limit and a partner is not necessary.
At 8pm the real party gets under way with dancing and music by Launceston five-piece 60’s band Magic Carpet Ride.
Mr Crawford, a member of the band, said the group had been holding a monthly dance night since February.
It has been so popular that the AIC has signed a deal that allows the band to play one Friday night a month until next Christmas.
“We wanted to get older people back into the habit of going out”, Mr Crawford said. “It attracts between 60 and 100 people – we have tables set up
with candles and make it a cabaret sort of thing”.
Mr Crawford said it was exciting to have the Victorian dance school, which is run by Victorian champions, Wendy and Greg Gilbert, in Launceston for the
weekend. From rock around the clock to the twist, Mr Crawford assures that everyone will have a great night.
“I think it is just the era – rock ‘n’ roll will never die,” he said.
